VIDEO: Falz recounts how he was almost killed by highway attackers in Abuja
In a recent interview on “Untapped,” rapper Falz shared a harrowing experience from November 16, 2013, when he and two friends faced a life-threatening attack by armed robbers on an Abuja highway.
Recounting the incident, Falz revealed that the unfortunate event resulted in the tragic death of their driver.
The rapper explained that they were en route to a high-profile wedding in the North, where he was allegedly paid a million dollars for a performance.
Originally planning to travel by plane, logistical issues led them to opt for a road trip based on a friend’s suggestion. Despite initial hesitations expressed by one of his friends, they embarked on the journey.
During the trip, one friend, uneasy about taking the road, urged Falz to offer a prayer. Dismissing the idea due to the daytime setting, they continued on.
According to him, they had asked the driver about his expertise and received assurance that he could drive them down safely which gave them peace of mind and subsequently they dozed off.
He explained that suddenly, a loud bang woke them up. In the middle of the road stood some able-bodied armed men who had fired three shots at their car, the third fatally hitting their driver in the eye.
This terrifying encounter left them fearing for their lives, prompting final prayers as they grappled with the sudden and violent turn of events.
Recounting the incident, Falz said:
“We see this turban tying, AK47 welding, dangerous-looking men in the middle of the expressway maybe like 5, we could not count; they were directly shooting at our car everything was happening within seconds, so fast from the first bullet coming to us waking up, the second bullet coming to us taking cover, to the third one that hit the driver in the eye.”
